Lawrence County Firefighters Association

LCFF
October 23, 2007
Marshall Township

Meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

The minutes of the September meeting were sent out prior to the October meeting and were accepted as sent.

Financial Report as of 9/30/2007
Savings balance: $1557.82
Checking balance: $280.00
Outstanding check for Family Celebrations for inflatables $124.36
50/50 tickets + Monday – Friday donations=$140.25
Winner of the 50/50 drawing was Pamela Wilder, who donated her winnings back to the county. We also raised $36 through ‘Fill the Boot’ on Saturday. Total deposit for Fire Prevention week was $176.25

Meat, cheese and relish trays were provided by Marshall prior to the meeting. If you missed the meeting you missed out on some GREAT homemade pies! (Thank you, Marshall. And please pass another thank you on to the Pie Lady. It was all greatly appreciated.) $38 worth of 50/50 sold at the October meeting. Drawing winner was Larry Goodwin. $19 cash was kept out for the cash bag (no additional deposit made)

Fire Prevention week went really well this year. Each school had a representative from the county show up at the Fire Prevention programs at the elementary schools.

For the Kid’s Carnival on Saturday we had all departments represented as well as participation from Dunn and BRMC ambulance services, Bedford Fire Ladder Truck and the Air Evac helicopter.

Right now we’re considering doing away with Monday thru Friday and having more efforts put into fundraising on Saturday alone. Replacement batteries for smoke alarms were distributed Saturday to parents as they made the rounds with the kids. They were well received and appreciated by the community. Thank you to Luke for getting the donations and ordering the batteries. Hopefully we’ll be able to do this again next year. The insurance agents making the donations were Mike Ragone, Jack Volkschild, and Justin Inman. (All members of Shawswick VFD)

Steve wanted to issue as general safety reminder to all VFD, especially to First Responders. With increased drug use, prescription and illegal, we need to be mindful of scene safety when called to possible O.D.’s or unknown medical runs. Some drugs can give the user almost super human strength and there is the possibility of personal injury to a Responder if they are out of control.

District 8 News: Bob Brown

Right now money has been approved but hasn’t been received. By-Laws are still in process for the district and will (hopefully) be voted on at the next meeting. (Nov 20) There has been a grant for Haz Mat training for at least 1, possibly 2, classes in Lawrence County. It will be put on by District 8 but right now Bob isn’t sure at what level; Awareness & Ops or Ops & Tech. A training hub is still needed for the district. There has been a $100,000 grant for the infrastructure of District 8. Although the board would like to divide this between 3 locations the state may not allow this. If the money can’t be divided then the money might be returned to the state. The next meeting was to be November 20th at Ellettsville.

Bob Brown would like to put on a CPR class for the county sometime in December or January. Details will be announced, as they are available.

The county did have 2 AED trainers at one time. One of them is currently located at Marion Township. If the other trainer is currently at another department please let us know so we can find it if needed.
